Roaring Creek

Roaring Creek, a village of approximately 2,500 people, is located just outside the Youth With A Mission-Belize campus base. The movement and presence of numerous Christian ministries within the community’s boundaries, and their outreach thrusts into Roaring Creek have provoked change. Sharing how Youth With A Mission has helped to bruise Satan’s eye and weaken His hold on the people, longtime staff person Kathy McDonald gives her take on Roaring Creek – a place she says Belizeans once feared to tread.

“When I first came here – everybody was always scared of coming to Roaring Creek,” McDonald said. “They wouldn’t even stop here.”

Roaring Creek used to be a hub for criminals, McDonald said.

What has changed to impact this society? Prayer focus and friendship evangelism, McDonald said.

“I think our spiritual impact has been one of the tremendous breakthroughs,” she said. “We have prayed endless hours.

“And our ministry of friendship evangelism of people getting to know this crazy group YWAM,” McDonald continued. “People have gotten to know our hearts. We’ve become part of the community.”

Promptly naming eight people from Roaring Creek who have completed YWAM’s Discipleship Training School and then returned to the community, McDonald testifies to the mission’s influence.

“I think a lot of people are taking ground,” she said. “Making an impact because of the foundation here at YWAM.”
